Paul B. Masterson, former resident of Forreston, Illinois, was a scientist with an inquiring mind, a sharp wit and a loving heart. He was born to Esther (Stitzel) and John I. Masterson of Forreston, Illinois, where he spent his childhood and graduated high school, Class of 1955. He was a graduate of Manchester College (IN) 1959, and did graduate work at U of Wisconsin and Iowa State U, where he earned his PhD. Degree in Physical Chemistry in 1966.
In 1967, Paul joined a start-up company in Santa Clara, California--Intel Corporation--as employee #101, where he worked for over 10 years. In 1974, he was a member of the first staff to open Intel's new plant in Hillsboro, Oregon.
In 1983, he married Virginia True of San Francisco and they lived in San Jose, CA until her death in 1995. In 2000, Paul married Patricia Melton of San Jose, California and they settled in Columbia, California where he died after an extended illness.
Paul is survived by Patricia and four stepchildren. He is also survived by three siblings, James Daniel (JD) of Menlo Park, California; Richard of Albany, California; and JoElla Weybright of Seattle, Washington. Other survivors include close first cousins in Illinois, Sylvia Thomas Saunders, Mt. Morris; Terry Thomas, Springfield; Margaret Stitzel Wicherts, Schamberg; Dan Stitzel, Lanark and Anne Oppegard, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
