Southwest Harbor - David Vaughn Towne, 78, of South West Harbor, Maine, died on Sunday, March 28, 2021, of a sudden heart attack. David grew up in Milo, Maine and retired from his 30 year career as a diesel mechanic for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad.
He was an avid treasure hunter and flea marketer. He was the person to call if you wanted to know the value of your antique buttons or of that special knife you found.
He was a intrepid finder and a loving father and caregiver. One of four brothers and sisters, David and his family hailed from a long line of English settlers, who came to Maine in the late 1600's. History fascinated him. He was an avid reader, interested in language, applied mathematics, history, poetry, art, and cross word puzzles.
He will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. To get him to crack a smile, was a rare gift. He will be greatly missed by his cohorts in the flea market community, to include his business partner, and close friend, Tonya Moniz.
David is survived by his daughter, Christine Towne Swersey and her husband, Bowen Swersey; as well as his sister, Linda Towne Lessard; and his adopted grandson, Damon Kennedy, the grandson of his late, dear friend, Helen Goggins; and many nieces and nephews.
