Betty L. Harelstad, 77, of Eau Claire and formerly of the Chetek/New Auburn area died May 19 at The Clairemont in Eau Claire.
Mrs. Harelstad was born Jan. 18, 1925 in Minneapolis to Howard and Cora Smith.
She was a Shell Lake High School graduate and then received a teaching degree from Barron County Normal School. She farmed with her husband, Arthur, until his death in 1968. Mrs. Harelstad had worked at ABC Furniture and Ben Franklin, both in Chetek, and Woolworth's in Rice Lake. She enjoyed children, and in the last 20 years of her life worked for a family in Eau Claire as a nanny/child care provider. They became her extended family. Mrs. Harelstad enjoyed socializing, going to the stock car races, and was a Minnesota Vikings football fan. She also enjoyed reading, playing the organ and piano and sewing and knitting.
She is survived by four sons, Bryce and Art, both of New Auburn, and Marc and Paul, both of Bloomer; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard of Shell Lake.
