Eva Mae Stowell died peacefully in her El Macero home on Dec. 16, 2005, after a prolonged illness from stroke and Alzheimer's disease. Born on Jan. 23, 1922, she was 83 years old.
She was born in Roy, N.M., and lived in Tipton, Mo. She received her bachelor's degree in home economics from MacMurray College in 1944 and interned at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. At MacMurray College, she was elected president of her sophomore class and achieved honor status.
She married her husband, Dr. Robert E. Stowell, in 1945 and enjoyed traveling to many foreign countries. Upon moving to El Macero in 1967, she was active in the Yolo County Women's Medical Auxiliary, and was elected president in 1974-75.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Lee Phelps and Maxine Southerland.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Susan of Davis; son, Rob and his wife Jean of Tahoe City; grandchildren, Dave Tambor of Folsom, and Ken and Lauren Martin of Roseville; and great-grandchildren, Christian and Catherine Martin of Roseville.
