Karl "Chizz" H. Wirzbach, 92 a resident of Bethany Home, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.
Karl was born April 17, 1921 in Dubuque, the son of Herman and Amelia (Batteram) Wirzbach. Karl enlisted in the US Navy during WW II, serving in the Philippines and was in the Seabee's for 2 years. He married Lois Jenkins on November 11, 1943, she passed away on August 20, 1965, he later married LaVonne Andresen on December 13, 1969, she passed away on April 16, 1996. Karl was a machinist at Adams Company for 43 years until he retired in 1986. He was a member of IAM Local 1238 and former member of Lasso E Camping Club and Navy League.
Survivors include his daughter, Lynn (Edward K.) Kupferschmidt of Dubuque; a son, Gary K. Wirzbach; step-children, Susan (John Leibfried) Hinderman of Cuba City, Wisconsin, George (Judy) Andresen of Dubuque, Charles (Yennie) Andresen of Indonesia; step-grandchildren; Cathy (Eric) Schmuck, Kara ( fiance'Andy) Andresen, Megan (Phil) Arensdorf, Jamie Wathen, Stacia Wathen, Jay (Becky) Hinderman, Susie Andresen and Chris Andresen; step great-grandchildren; Madeline, Abigail, Casey, Noah, Bryce, Ian, Miles, Emily, and Hannah; and a sister, Doris O'Brien of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife first wife, Lois, his second wife, LaVonne, a brother Robert and in-laws, Mildred Wirzbach and Thomas O'Brien
