  The Sun News December 30, 2005 Russell Max Hitchens, 83, of Jackson Township, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, after a brief illness. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he lived in Conway prior to moving to Jackson Township four years ago. He retired from A. H. Robins, Co., Richmond, Va., where he worked for 31 years in sales and sales management. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. At the time, he was the youngest Chief Petty Officer in the Coast Guard or Navy. Before joining Robins, he worked as a jeweler in Philadelphia; later he used his artistic talent in watercolor painting and embossing. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Claghorn Hitchens, in 2000. He is survived by two sons, Kenneth Hitchens and his wife, Barbara, of Richmond, Va., and the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Hitchens and his wife, Janis, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Cheryl Prima and her husband, Matti, of Princeton Junction, N.J.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delema Coffin of Philadelphia, and Mary Keene of New Port Richey, Fla.; a brother, Gideon Hitchens Jr. or Mantoloking, N.J.; as well as many other family and friends.
