  Main Line Times (Ardmore, PA) November 29, 2007 Alan McIlvain of Wenham, Mass., formerly of Pennsylvania, age 85 years, husband of Elizabeth L. (Claghorn) McIlvain, died Friday evening, Nov. 16, 2007 at Brighton Gardens in Danvers, Mass. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Walter B. and Alida B. (Baird) McIlvain. He attended Haverford School in Haverford, Pennsylvania and the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II as a Staff Sergeant for the 35th Infantry Division for the United States Army. He landed at Normandy with the 3rd Army in 1944, where he saw combat in France. He also fought during the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. McIlvain had been President of the Alan McIlvain Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a family lumber business since 1798. In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, he is survived by one daughter, Janet O'Hara and her husband David of Hamilton, Mass.; two sons, Alan McIlvain Jr. and his wife Ann, Gordon McIlvain and his wife Marcia all of Bryn Mawr, PA; eight grandchildren, Coryell Urban, Alan McIlvain III, Wick McIlvain, Weld McIlvain, Jordan McIlvain, Fell McIlvain, Elizabeth O'Hara and Caroline O'Hara; one great grandchild, Carolyn Urban; one brother, Baird McIlvain of Gladwyne, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Gibson McIlvain.
