He was born in Philadelphia, son of the late Harry and Anna Colden, and retired from NAVELEX after 25 years of service. After retirement he prepared taxes with Quick Return in Portsmouth, VA for 10 years. He was a Marine Corps veteran and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Boogades Colden, and is survived by his two daughters, Susan C. Smeland and husband Andy of Virginia Beach, VA and Ann C. Lanham and husband Rob of Culpeper, VA; two sons, William H. Colden, Jr. and wife Chris of Virginia Beach, VA and Damian A. Colden and wife Katie of Michigan; sister, Mary Creaghe of New Jersey; two brothers, Richard Colden and Frank Colden, both of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, William H. "Trip" Colden III of Charlottesville, VA, Katherine Collins of Florida, Rachael Colden of Indiana, Allison Colden and Chelsea Smeland, both of Virginia Beach, VA, Courtney Lanham and Mary Kate Lanham of Culpeper, VA; one great-granddaughter, Kate of Florida.
