  The Hartford Courant (CT) November 24, 1999 BROWN, Barbara (Eddy) Barbara (Eddy) Brown, 75, wife of Allyn L. Brown, Jr., of Preston, died Monday evening, (November 22, 1999) at the Backus Hospital in Norwich. Born on January 16, 1924, in Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of the late william P. and Gail (Eddy) Cushing, Jr. At the age of five her family moved to Birmingham, MI, where she grew up, graduated from Baldwin High School and then the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Psychology. The family then moved to West Hartford where she worked for Connecticut General Life Co. While in Hartford, she was a member of the Junior League of Hartford and the Hartford Chapter of the D.A.R. on July 26, 1952, at Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford, she was united in marriage to Allyn L. Brown, Jr. They bought an abandoned dairy farm in Preston and proceeded to restore the 18th Century farmhouse and the surrounding acreage which is now known as the Maple Lane Farm. She was involved in many community organizations, such as the Auxiliary of the Norwich Hospital, the Friends of Slater Museum, the Southeastern Connecticut Symphony, the Preston Historical Society, and at the same time was continuously involved in service to the Republican Party. She started as vice chairman of the Preston Republican Town Committee and then as the chairman. She served as a member of the State Central Committee, then as chairman of the 2nd Congressional District known as Grassroots East, vice chairman of the State Republican Party for five years, and also served on the staff of formerCongressman Bob Steele. She is survived by her husband and their six children, Gail M. Brown of Preston, Sarah C. Brown of Encinitas, CA, Allyn L. Brown, III, of Preston, Paul M. Brown of Fayston, VT, Daniel E. Brown of Lebanon, NH, and Jean B. Homans ofNorth Stonington. Also a sister, Jean E. Pullan of Santa Fe, NM; a brother, William P. Eddy, III, of Rangeley, ME; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
