Joyce Gray Clegg Robinson was born October 8, 1925 in Trinity, Texas, the youngest of three children of Fannie Elizabeth Gray and Jacob Pope Barnes Clegg, both attorneys. She passed away peacefully on November 7, 2019 after a brief illness.
Friends who knew Joyce were keenly aware of her steadfast faith, lifelong commitment to education, love of travel and enjoyment of bridge. She was valedictorian of her class at Trinity High School and graduated from the University of Texas at 19. In 1954 she moved to Huntsville after her marriage to Wilbourne Thomas Robinson, Jr.
The consummate volunteer, throughout her life she actively participated in numerous civic, academic and genealogical organizations, frequently holding leadership positions. She was a proud descendant of William Morton and George Huff, two of the 297 grantees that purchased parcels of land from Stephen Fuller Austin, father of Stephen F. Austin. She was a world traveler who enjoyed the thrill of new adventures. Raised Baptist, following her marriage she was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville for more than sixty years.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Frances Alla Robinson Snipes and husband, Wilson Currin Snipes, Jr., and Florine Clegg Robinson Klussmann and husband, Glenn Dugan Klussmann; grandchildren, Henry Jacob Brown, Malcolm Meriwether Snipes Goldstein and husband, Lee Alexander Goldstein, Alla Elizabeth Klussmann, Chesley Glenn Klussmann, Wilson Currin Snipes III, and Rees Frances Klussmann; and, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband and siblings, Frances Clegg Alexander and Jacob "Jake" Barnes Clegg, Jr.
