Charles Bristed Rockwell 3rd, 81, of Poppasquash Road and Cambridge, Mass., died yesterday at home. A 1936 graduate of Harvard, he was a teacher at Shady Hill School in Cambridge for 10 years. He was President of Rockwell Films, Inc., Cambridge, during the 1960s, having produced such works as Boston and the Sea for the New England Aquarium and Day Break, filmed in Austria for Church World Service.
He was the husband of Barbara (Hess) Rockwell.
He was also a landscaper and building architect. He designed numerous restoration and renovation projects in the Cambridge area. He served as director of the International Student Association in Cambridge for six years.
Born in Bristol, a son of the late Charles B. Rockwell Jr. and Eleanor (Benson) Rockwell, he lived in Cambridge for 40 years and returned to Bristol this past year.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a field-commissioned lieutenant of the 3rd Army. He served in the Army Medical Corps in Europe overseeing the operations of several hospitals in Germany. He was an avid sailor, having crewed for two Newport-to-Bermuda races aboard Belisarius, the family yacht.
Besides his wife he leaves a son, Timothy Ensign Rockwell of Bristol; a daughter, Holly June Rockwell-Celerier of Somerville, Mass.; a brother, Paul Standish Rockwell of Ayer, Mass., and a sister, Eleanor Edelstein of Bristol. He was the brother of the late H. Benson Rockwell and Martha Millett.
