  The Grand Island Independent (NE) September 8, 1999 Helen J. Mehring, 83, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center. Mrs. Mehring was born on June 13, 1916, at Cedar Rapids to Jesse and Agnes (Papst) Morris. She lived in Cedar Rapids until the age of 6, when the family moved to Grand Island. She married Fred F. Mehring on Aug. 21, 1934, in Grand Island. From 1943 to 1944, the couple lived in San Anselmo, Calif., while Mr. Mehring was in the service. They then lived in Grand Island. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Stephen Ministries and the Liederkranz. Survivors include her husband; one son, Donald Mehring of Grand Island; one daughter, Nancy Ann Erwin of Overland Park, Kan.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, L.E. "Jack" Morris of Littleton, Colo. He was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Wilson.
