  THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT November 23, 1961 Julia Mae Guyle was born at Concordia, Kansas, Oct. 30, 1883, and passed away Nov. 14, 1961, at the Baker Nursing Home in Chariton. When she was a small child she moved with her parents to Ottumwa. The family moved to Chariton when she was a young woman. On May 18, 1904, she was married to James Hickman of Chariton, where they continued living the rest of their lives. One child, Louise, was born to this union, now Mrs. Verl Holmes of Emmetsburg. Mrs. Hickman was a loyal member of the Methodist church and was awarded a life membership in the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was very active in the Republican party, and the Pythian Sisters. That organization honored her as the Grand Chief of the State of Iowa. She was Temple Mother of the Chariton Temple No. 243, and was also a member of the Firemen's Auxiliary. In June of 1951 she became Justice of the Peace, which position she held until her death. Mrs. Hickman was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother and one sister. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law.
