Edward William "Ed, Big Ed" Trippet, 79, "took his last horse ride to heaven" on Sept. 4, 2012. He was a big-hearted husband, dad, grandpa and brother, and will be greatly missed.
Ed was always willing to help anyone, and enjoyed taking friends and family on horseback trips into the Bob Marshall Wilderness so they could see and appreciate God's beauty. Ed loved watching his nine grandkids' activities, and welcomed his first great-granddaughter in July. Dad loved kids, and when his sons didn't have a baseball team he started and coached the Trippet's baseball team.
Ed was born March 31, 1933, in Whitefish, to Olive (TenEyck Berry) and Frank H. Trippet. He had lived in the same house in Kalispell since 1939.
A highlight moment for Ed was playing tackle on the Flathead Braves' state championship football team of 1951. He worked in high school on the Hungry Horse Dam and for the Forest Service.
He attended the University of Montana on a football scholarship and played for the Grizzlies. He also attended the Chicago Industrial School for training in printing technology.
He married Donna Fosse on Sept. 12, 1954, in Great Falls, and they celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage together.
Ed was an active community member; he served as a leader for the divers on the Search and Rescue Association, a volunteer for the Sheriff's Office and Sheriff's Posse, and as a member of the Flathead Parking Commission. He was an officer of the Kalispell Jaycees, Lions, Elks, Masons, Shriners and Commandery. He was a lifetime member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He served for 10 years in the National Guard.
Ed was a printer/publisher, and owned and operated Trippet's Quality Printing and Office Supply, founded by his father Frank, and continued by his son Ron. In his later years he served as a land and building developer.
Ed's hobbies included skiing, sailing, scuba diving, horse packing, shooting guns, relaxing at the Flathead Lake cabin, hunting, handball, and drinking coffee at the coffee shop.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Olive and Frank Trippet; his sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Larry Blake; and brothers-in-law, Bob Fosse, and Billy Garrett.
He is survived by his wife Donna; sister, Helen Garrett; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Fosse; children, Linda Garnett and Brian, Bruce Trippet and Bekka, Ron Trippet and N.C., Barb Sanders and Herb, and Janet Trippet; grandchildren, Jessica, Erin, Elsa, Austin, Dan, Mark, Toni, Amy and Erica; great-granddaughter, Avery; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ed always used to say, "Any trip you can walk away from is a good one," and we know he is now on his very best trip.
