WEST SALEM -- Richard E. "Dick" Pelton, 69, of West Salem died unexpectedly Friday night, June 18, 2010, at Samaritan Regional Health System.
He was born in Elyria on April 19, 1941, to Warren Linwood Pelton and Mildred (Horton) Pelton, and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Geraldine and Russell Marsh, following the death of his mother when he was a child.
Richard had been a resident of Ashland County for most of his life. He was a roofing contractor for 50 years and had worked in Ashland and Elyria.
He was a member of the New London Eagles Lodge 2869. Dick enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
On Feb. 19, 1960, he married Louise Howser, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Richard Duane and Kathy Pelton of Greenwich, Brian Keith Pelton and Brenda Perkins of New London, Kevin Scott and Tammy Pelton of Ashland, and Erika Rae Pelton and Michael Mathias of Delaware; his siblings, Gary Lee and Pamela Pelton of Ashland, and Janet Marie and John Smith of Fredericktown; 12 grandchildren, Eric and Cindy Pelton, Brooke and Derek Greene, Jennifer Pelton, Jeremy Pelton, Samantha Pelton, Michael Pelton, Stephanie Pelton, Steffan Mowry, Janiese Pelton, Emily Mathias, Riley Mathias, and Sarah Pelton; and four great-grandchildren, Brody Pelton, Claire Howell, Aiden Greene and Olivia Pelton; and his aunt, Geraldine Marsh of Wellington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his uncle, Russell Marsh; and two brothers, Leonard Pelton Marsh and Dale Pelton.
