Jones, Harold K. 94, of Burlington, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, January 11, 2015 at Oak Crest in DeKalb. He was born August 25, 1920 on the Lloyd family farm in Sycamore the son of Knill and Myrle (Lloyd) Jones.
Harold was a 1937 graduate of Hampshire High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. He was stationed in Alaska and then aboard the USS Buckingham in the Pacific Theatre and also was in the occupational forces in Japan.
Following his service, he married Gladys M. Carlson on August 24, 1946 and they farmed in Burlington all his married life. He also raised livestock and was proud of his carpentry skills. Harold was a very active member of the Burlington Methodist Church all his adult life. He was a 50 year member of the Masons and was an original member of the Burlington Park Board, a position he held for 29 years. Harold was an exceptional athlete, playing baseball in his younger years, golf with Gladys in his later years and was very proud of the fact that at the age of 70, he could do a 1 1/2 off the diving board.
Surviving are his four beautiful daughters, Sandra (Joe) Konecny, Carol (Daniel) Follman, Valerie (Rev. Jack) Way and Cheryl Ward; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and many more to come.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Gladys on May 17, 2003; and brothers, Lloyd (Adeline) Jones and Loren (Patricia) Jones.
