ATHOL -- John P. Gilgut, 91, of 535 Chestnut Hill Ave., a retired accountant, died Sunday, Oct. 28, in Quabbin Valley Health Care, Athol.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Gertrude P. (Preble) Gilgut; a brother, Thomas J. Gilgut of Athol; and a sister, Adelle V. Duval of Athol.
A brother, Dr. Constantine Gilgut, predeceased him.
He was born in Athol, son of John P. and Tofilia (Dudis) Gilgut, and lived many years in New York before returning to Athol in 1986. He graduated from Athol High School and received a degree in accounting from Bentley College. He served in the Army in World War II, obtained the rank of staff sergeant and received the European Theater Medal.
Mr. Gilgut was an accountant for Commercial Solvents Co., retiring in 1975. Previously, he worked for General Electric Corp., Schenectady, N.Y. He was a member of Starrett Memorial United Church, Mamaroneck, N.Y., where he served as the church treasurer and taught Sunday school.
