Velma Jeanette Taylor Hainline, 90, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at her home.
She was born Jan. 28, 1920, in Bluffs, the daughter of Claude and Jeane Vortman Taylor. She married Adrian Hainline Jr. on Dec. 21, 1942, in Kankakee, and he preceded her in death Oct. 3, 1999.
Mrs. Hainline is survived by two daughters, Joy Elizabeth of Jacksonville and Carol Susan of Atlanta, Ga.; three sons, Bryan Edward (wife, Sarah) of Indianapolis, Mark Adrian (wife, Barbara) of Chapel Hill, N.C., and David Claude (wife, Sharon) of Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Robert Taylor.
Mrs. Hainline graduated from Western Illinois University in 1942 with a Bachelor's in Science/Education. During the Second World War, she worked in a munitions factory in Talladega, Ala., as a chemist. Following the war, she worked as a teacher in Frederick, Md., and then in Boulder, Colo., and Ann Arbor, Mich. Mrs. Hainline returned to school when her children had grown and graduated in 1978 with a Master's degree in Education from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Ga. She taught high school until she and Adrian returned to Jacksonville upon retirement in 1993.
Mrs. Hainline was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville and enjoyed cooking, reading, and politics. She was an ombudsman for Jacksonville Convalescent Center, worked as a tutor in the Adult Literacy Program at Lincoln Land Community College, and volunteered at the Jacksonville Food Center.
