THOMASTON - Ethel M. Lavoie Mank, 87, died at her daughter's Rockland home, Thursday, September 3, 2009, after a long illness.
Born in Rockland, January 1, 1922, she was the daughter of Henry C. and Agnes Wotton Hutchinson.
During the early years of her childhood, she lived in Rockland and later moved to Warren, where she resided with her grandmother. She worked in earlier years at the pant factory in Rockland.
On May 2, 1941, she married Robert F. Lavoie, in Brunswick. The couple made their home on Limerock Street and later Old County Road in Rockland. Mr. Lavoie died September 20, 1976. During the next few years she cared for her father during his declining years. After his death, she moved to Thomaston's Pine Street Apartments, where she met and on October 21, 1984, married Albert L. Mank. They enjoyed each other's companionship and traveled together until Mr. Mank's death in February 10, 1989. Since that time she has resided on Booker Street.
Throughout her adult life Mrs. Mank cared for many family members during times of illness, including her son, husbands and sister. She also served as a grandmother/babysitter to many children. Her family said that she had a "heart of gold", and would do anything for anyone. She particularly enjoyed providing sweets for neighborhood children and anyone dropping by her home.
She loved cooking and going to yard sales. Over the years, Mrs. Mank had many pets which she adored.
Besides both husbands, Mrs. Mank was pre-deceased by one son, Edwin L. Lavoie in 2001.
She is survived by one son, Robert H. Lavoie and his companion Dolly Hall of Thomaston; one daughter, Agnes S. Eagen and her husband Carl of Rockland; one sister, Dorothy Blastow of Rockland; six grandchildren, Danet, Becky, Billy, David, Lynette, Cindy; ten great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
