  Portland Press Herald September 4, 1951. Harry E. Nixon, 69, a prominent criminal lawyer here since 1909, died Sunday in a local hospital. He lived at 456 Woodford St. Mr. Nixon was recorder of the Portland Municipal Court from 1916 to 1919 and was a candidate at various times for the offices of mayor of Portland, judge of the Cumberland County Probate Court and county attorney. He was chairman of the Democratic State Committee several times. Mr. Nixon represented defendants in many Maine murder cases. Born here May 3, 1882, son of Edward and Hattie M. Ingraham Nixon, he was educated in local schools and studies law under the late Judge Sewall Strout. A member of the Maine and Massachusetts Bar Associations, he was active in Masonic Orders and belonged to the Portland Lodge of Masons, Greenleaf Royal Arch Chapter, Saint Albans Commandery, Knights Templar, and the Kora Shrine. He was also a member of the Portland Lodge of Elks. Besides his widow, the former Inez George, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Hattie M. Higgins, Gorham; a daughter, Miss Violet E. Nixon of Portland; two sons, Milton A. of Portland and Harry E. Nixon Jr. of Billerica, Mass., and several grandchildren.
