  Portland Press Herald February 14, 2009 AUBURN -- Roger Alan Powers, 80, of Portland, passed away at Androscoggin Hospice House, Auburn. He was born in Portland, on May 29, 1928, the son of Miney C. and Marion G. Powers of Portland. He attended Portland schools and graduated Portland High School in 1946. He then joined the United States Army and was proud to be member of the 82nd Airborne. He worked for Maine Central Railroad as a Tower man and telegrapher and retired in 1985. Upon retirement he and his wide Lorraine enjoyed time in Florida and summered at their camp at Lakehurst in Windham, on Sebago Lake. His sister, Joanne Kennedy of Portland; two daughters, Patricia J. Croteau of Litchfield, and Susan L. Pratt and husband Timothy of Lyman survive him; and also his six grandchildren, Wayne R. Diffin of Lyman, Roger L. Diffin and his wife Karla of Minot, Dawn M. Hodge and husband Ryan of South Portland, Sean O'Donnell and his wife Mary of Lewiston, Brianne K. O'Donnell of Portland, and Robert C. Croteau of Lewiston; and six great-grandchildren, Sean S. O'Donnell Jr. and his new brother Liam R. O'Donnell, 'Thanks Gramp for watching Liam,' Madison L. Morris of Cape Cod, Mass., Zoe P. Diffin of Westbrook, Taylar M. Hodge of South Portland, and Lucy L. Diffin or Minot. His parents and two sisters, Phyllis Clark and Marian V. Barnett, predecease him. Roger and Lorraine we active members of local Portland Square dancing and skin-diving clubs. He and his wife Lorraine met and spent all of their summers on Sebago Lake at their cottage that they built together. The camps will serve as a legacy to Roger and to Lorraine as a primary focal point of family activity all summer long. Roger and Lorraine had their home open to family, friends, and strangers and they will be missed. Roger passed on his love of the outdoors and outdoors activities, like alpine skiing, sledding, skating, boating, and swimming to his children and grandchildren.
