Henry LeMont "Monty" Bassine, a former resident of St. Helens, died on May 6 at his home in Bandon after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Monty was born Aug. 23, 1954, in St. Helens to Henry Roger and Zina Lorraine LeMont Bassine.
He was raised and educated in St. Helens, graduating from St. Helens High School in 1972. He attended the Western Culinary Institute in Portland.
Monty married Carol Colby on Sept. 10, 1977, in St. Helens.
He worked as executive chef at Wallowa Lake Lodge in Joseph, Ore., and the Inn at Face Rock in Bandon. He owned the Chicago Street Grill and worked as a purchasing supervisor at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
Monty enjoyed fishing and camping but his greatest joy was the time spent with, and cooking for, his family.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter Kristin and Shawn Russell; son Aaron Bassine and his fiancée, Beth Henson; grandchildren Allie, Sydney, Noah, Daylin; father Henry Bassine; sister Rhonda Luna and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Zina.
