Winnie Padgett Williams Sample, 88, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon, Indiana.
Winnie was born on February 8, 1925 in Hayden, Indiana the daughter of Ray and Fressie Brovard Padgett. She married her first husband, Lawson Williams Jr. on July 1, 1944; he preceded her in death on August 23, 1972. She married her second husband Donald R. Sample on October 7, 1983; he preceded her in death on August 31, 1994.
Winnie worked as the clerk and office manager of the North Vernon Water Department retiring in 1984 and had worked for the 1st National Bank in accounting for 4 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Jennings Community Hospital Ladies Guild, Republican Women's Group, North Vernon Chapter #183 Order of the Eastern Star since 1983 and Delta Theta Tau where she has served as an officer. Her enjoyments were knitting, painting toile, traveling, homemaking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son, Lawson "Buck" Williams of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Janey (Don) Hearne of North Vernon, Indiana and Tracy White of New Castle, Indiana; a step-daughter, Betty (Jim) Lamb of North Vernon, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Todd (Lisa) Herne and Kirk (Kathy) Hearne both of North Vernon, Indiana, Kerry (Chris) Heilers of Scipio, Indiana, Benjamin Williams of Glenwood Springs, Colorado and Ethan White of Anderson, Indiana; three step-grandchildren, Stacey (Christine) Chaney of Nashville, Tennessee, Richard Lamb of Sellersburg, Indiana and Rob Lamb of North Vernon, Indiana and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, three sisters, Marjorie Rutherford, Katherine Miller and Phyllis Miller and one grandson, Daniel White.
