Charleston - Don B. Daughhetee, 70 years old, of Charleston died Monday at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 4, 1924, at Poynor, Ark., the son of Elbert T. and Lessie Cline Daughhetee. On Dec. 5, 1946, he married Vena Morgan.
Charleston's mayor at the time of his death, he was active in the Charleston City Council for many years. He was also active in youth recreation and served as president of the Park Board, president of the Charleston Recreation Association and was a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was a member of the VFW Post 4294.
He lived in Mississippi County most of his life, where he owned and operated D & D Electric until his retirement in 1985. He served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the Missouri National Guard for 36 years, retiring with the rank of Command Sergeant Major.
Survivors include his mother; his wife; two sons, Don Jr. and Tom Daughhetee; a daughter, Susan Hart; three brothers, Junior, A.E. and Ray Daughhetee; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
