Newman W. Eaton, son of Clarence & Nora (Shepard) Eaton.
He attended Deer Isle schools. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving at Angie Beach Head and in the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star Medal and numerous others.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nellie (Rice) Eaton of Stonington; three sons, Newman Eaton Jr. and his wife, Margaret of Blue Hill, Robert Eaton of Bangor, Craig Eaton of Rockland; one daughter, Dixie Forrester and her husband, Norman of Winterport: one daughter-in-law, Patty (Weed) Eaton of Stonington; nine grandchildren, Newman Eaton and his wife, Jessica, Shawn Eaton, Michael Hutchinson and his wife, Becky, Frances Hardy, Natasha Eaton, James and Matthew Eaten, David and Amber Eaten; four great-grandchildren, Katy and Erin Hutchinson, Jonathan and Sarah Eaton; one brother and sister-in-law. Virgil E. and Natalie Eaton of Stonington; a special friend, Manford Eaton of Stoningtan several aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins.
Newman was predeceased by five children, Mary, Royce and Dean as infants, Clarence in l98l and Jeffrey in I992; his sister, Pauline Schoonaver.
