Brewster - Mary Jane Fowler of Brewster, NY, passed away Saturday January 26, 2019 at Westchester Medical Center with her family at her side at The age of 95.
She was born October 25, 1923 in South Bend, IN, daughter of the late Walter and Blanch (Napieralski) Wegenka. Mary Jane graduated from St. Stanislaus High School in South Bend in 1942. She served with the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946. After her discharge from the Marines she married Irving E. Fowler of Carmel, NY at St. Catherine of Sienna Church in New York City.
In 1964 they moved to Brewster, NY. Mary Jane worked as a teacher's aide for WARC in Katonah for 22 years before she retired. She was a member of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster, a volunteer for Putnam Hospital Center for 30 years, spending most of her time at the Eagle Eye Thrift Shop in Brewster. She volunteered at the office of the aging and was a life member of the Putnam Marine Corp. League.
Her husband Irving predeceased her in 1988. She is survived by her son Kenneth Fowler and his wife Amy of Brewster, NY, daughters Barbara Hoeper and her husband Paul of Arlington, VA and Patricia Fowler of Summit, NY and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Lawrence and Patrick Hoeper. Rita was predeceased by her siblings Rita Csenar, Pat Laskowski, Chester Wegenka, Bob Wegenka, Daniel Wegenka and Frank Wegenka.
