YORK - Regina Weed Parsons, 93, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015.
Reggie was born May 12, 1921, in Stonington. She attended the elementary school and high school in Stonington. After graduation in 1938, she left the island on a lobster boat for the mainland, since there was no bridge at the time. She then went to nursing school in Portland and was very proud to graduate as a registered nurse; which she pursued her entire life.
After graduation, she moved to New London, Conn., and worked at the New London Hospital where she met her husband of 60 years, Leo Luce Parsons. He was a submarine inspector during the war. They were introduced by a friend who thought the two Mainers should know each other and he was right. They were married Dec. 26, 1944, and moved to Wilmington, N.C., where she worked in the hospital while he was in the Navy.
After World War II she returned to her forever home, York Harbor. She worked at York Hospital, as one of the first emergency room nurses and in many other capacities including the operating room as well as for several doctors, Dr. Lanni and Dr. Petrovich. While working full-time, she raised her two children, John and Chris. She was a familiar face at York Hospital for the remainder of her life.
She was predeceased by her mother, Geneva Eaton Shepard; her father, Alton Weed; her husband, Leo Luce Parsons; her brothers, Roger and Clayton Weed; and a grandson, Viktor Mank.
She leaves seven brothers and sisters, Norman and Janice Weed, Raymond Weed, Emery Weed, Leroy Weed, Dorothy Gertrude and Ronald Cutchin, Margaret Burns, and Barbara and Larry Eason. She was also a loving grandmother to Judd and MiKayla Parsons, Leanna Parisi, Viktor Mank and Alex Carey, who has two children, Kennedy and Truman. She also had many nieces and nephews, and their children, who have given their love and support over many years. And special thanks to Hal for being there.
