WEST YARMOUTH — Lorraine Carr (Williams) Weston, 85, of West Yarmouth, passed away in her home on April 26, 2009, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on Aug. 8, 1923, and raised in Taunton, Lorraine moved to West Yarmouth in 1971.
She leaves her cherished husband of 55 years, Harris B. Weston; three beloved daughters, Mona of Brewster, Meredith of South Yarmouth, and Marci of West Yarmouth; and a son, William of Bellows Falls, Vt. She also leaves three adored sisters, Romona of Taunton, Lucille of Durham, Maine, and Ruth of Narragansett, R.I.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews throughout the United States and Europe.
Lorraine had a strong faith in God and a lifelong love of music. She was very active in the West Yarmouth Congregational Church for 38 years where she enjoyed ringing bells and singing in the choir. She also enjoyed traveling and had fond memories of her trips to England with Harris.
A talented seamstress, Lorraine crafted many quilts that are keeping family and friends comforted throughout New England. She was affectionately known as the "Fudge Lady" at numerous crafts shows and church fairs over the years. Lorraine was also known for sharing her famous Baked Beans at many of theses events.
She served the Yarmouth School District and the town of Yarmouth for more than 30 years in several different departments. Many people would recognize her cheerful smile at the ticket booths at Smugglers Beach and Sea Gull Beach. She was also always seen at the polling precinct at Mattacheese Middle School with containers full of her homemade cookies. She very much enjoyed the company of her family, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
