Bakersfield, CA -- Beverly J. (Roderick) Walsh, 70, of Bakersfield, CA, and formerly of Athol, died peacefully in her sleep July 10, 2012, at home with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 7, 1941, in Hyannis, the daughter of Alfred C. Roderick and Margaret "Rita" (Cahoon) Roderick. She was raised in Hyannis, and graduated from Hyannis schools.
She met her husband, Charles M. Walsh, while he was stationed at Otis Air Force Base, Cape Cod. They were married Aug. 5, 1960, and raised their family in Greenfield, Orange, and Athol, before moving to California in 1990.
Mrs. Walsh loved spending time at the ocean and spending time with her family. She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed her two dogs, Penny and Reba, and her three cockatiels, Luke, Lucy, and Lila. She also enjoyed ceramics and shopping with her family, and going to the casinos. She was a homemaker and took great pride in making and keeping her home for her family.
Besides her husband of 52 years, she also leaves five children, Lorraine Brown and her husband Larry, along with their son Jeremy, of West Yarmouth, Linda Lee and her husband Edward, along with their children James, Michael, Jonathan and Lindsey, of Athol, Charles Walsh Jr. and his wife Mona with their children Ryan, Matthew and Maia, of Bakersfield, Ron Walsh and his wife Tonya and their children Kelsey and Tyler, of Bakersfield, and Mindy Gil and her husband Edgar and their daughter Kameryn, of Bakersfield; as well as a godson, William "Buddy" Brown of Kingston.
She also leaves four sisters, Patricia Fairfax of Stafford, VA, Sharon Brown of Kingston, Priscilla Grant of Martha's Vineyard, and Laurie Halle of Pocassett; and two brothers, Michael Roderick of Fall River, and Russell Roderick of Cape Cod. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a grandson, Mathew Brown; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Lee; and two sisters, Barbara Copeland and Katherine Bearse.
