EAST MONTPELIER - Genevieve "Gen" Chapell, 74, a resident of East Montpelier, died Oct. 15, 2004, at the Berlin Health and Rehab Center after a short illness. She was surrounded by her family.
Gen was born August 8, 1930, in Brattleboro, Vt. She was the daughter of Olive and John Pratt. In her youth she lived in Brattleboro, Waitsfield and in Montpelier where her mother ran a rooming house. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1949. In July of 1950 she married H. Roger Chapell (deceased November 2000) in Montpelier. During their 50-year marriage they lived in Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire. While living in Keene, N.H., she was employed as head teller at the Cheshire National Bank which she thoroughly enjoyed. In 1983 she and Roger returned to the family homestead - Templeton Farm in East Montpelier.
Gen loved music, dancing, cooking, entertaining and being with her family. She enjoyed traveling and had a special love for the coast of Maine. She always enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors who would stop by the farmhouse. She was a very giving person and would always make anyone who stopped by feel welcome.
Gen was a member of the American Legion Post 3 Auxiliary, Brown Johnson Post 792 VFW Auxiliary, and the East Montpelier Home Dem group.
Survivors include a son Bruce, his wife, Janet, of East Montpelier and their two sons Ryan of Peacham and Seth of East Montpelier; a daughter, Brenda Furber and her husband, Larry, of Williamstown.
