He was born in Winter Haven, Fl. to George Burke Childs, Jr. and Helen Roby Childs. He grew up in Winter Haven and graduated from Winter Haven Senior High. He went on to attend the University of Florida where he majored in political science. He graduated from the University of Florida Law School in 1980 and then began his law career on Marco Island, FL. He remained in private law practice in Marco Island until the time of his death. Don achieved his lifelong dream of world travel. He was an intelligent, compassionate and loving man who had a passion for sports especially golf and the Florida Gators. He was a gifted and creative writer whose avocation was writing comics. Don was preceded in death by his father George Burke Childs, Jr., stepfather, Walter E. Gross. He is survived by his mother, Helen Roby Gross of Winter Haven, Fl; his sister, Deborah Childs Stuart of Lakeland, Fl; and his beloved children, Rex Roby Childs and Madelyn June Childs of Bonita Springs, Fl.
