NEW BRAINTREE Julian Street "Bud" Merigold, 76, of New Braintree, MA, died Thursday, April 12.
He leaves his companion of 9 years, Janice Proctor; his son, Michael H. Merigold; daughter, Cindy Katherine Baral and her husband Sam Baral and grandsons, Mason and Gavin; his sister, Carolyn M. Furst of Bath, Maine; and brother, Charles Merigold of Tucson, Arizona; and nephews and nieces.
Born in Evanston, IL on Jan. 27, 1931, he moved to Grafton, MA and graduated Grafton H.S. in 1949. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War as an Airman First Class from 1950 to 1954. He worked as a salesman for M.S Walker Inc., retiring in 2000.
One of Bud's lifelong passions was a love of Jazz. In 1963, while living in Randolph N.J., Bud hosted a radio broadcast called 'Jazz Diversified', mostly playing, "real Jazz", as he liked to call it, from the 20's, 30's and 40's. What started out as a half hour pre-taped show turned into a 1-2 hour live program on Saturday evenings, until 1970.
In the early 80's, while living in Hardwick, MA, he once again hosted his Jazz Diversified program out of WORC in Worcester, MA for a few years. Most recently, while in New Braintree, he reconnected with friends from his early radio days. A result of this was his return to ?internet? radio. He pre-recorded 1-hour Jazz programs for OKOM.com. He was extremely enthusiastic being able to reconnect with his love of Jazz, and he spent a lot of his time creating these programs. One could always hear his wildly, tapping foot, while he recorded these programs.
