SOUTHBRIDGE - Dorothy M. (Berry) Scheinfeldt, 71, of 18 Village Drive, a registered nurse, died Monday in a four-alarm fire that destroyed a 12-unit building at Brookside Apartments.
Her husband, Rex C. Scheinfeldt, died in 1984.
She leaves two sons, James E. Scheinfeldt of Marina, Calif., and David B. Scheinfeldt, with whom she lived; two daughters, Barbara Dolan of Charlton and Ruth Pinho of Raynham; a brother, George Berry of Sturbridge; a sister, Ethel Mandelle of Eastford, Conn.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.
She was born in Southbridge, daughter of William and Doris (Crosby) Berry, and lived here most of her life.
She graduated from Mary Wells High School, and earned a bachelor of science degree from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in Boston. She earned a certificate in special eye and ear care from Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. Mrs. Scheinfeldt served six years in the Navy, and was a veteran of World War II.
She worked 22 years at Harrington Memorial Hospital. She previously worked several years at Massachusetts General Hospital. Mrs. Scheinfeldt was a life member of Central Baptist Church. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
