EASTFORD, CONN. - Ethel (Berry) Madelle, 71, of Lake Drive, formerly of Southbridge, died yesterday in University of Massachusetts Hospital, Worcester.
She leave her husband of 43 years, Leonard Madelle; a brother, George Berry of Sturbridge; several nephews and nieces. A sister, Dorothy Scheinfeldt, died in 1995. She was born in Southbridge, daughter of William and Doris (Crosby) Berry, and lived in Eastford for many years. She graduated from Mary F. Wells High School in 1943 and from Worcester Junior College in 1945.
Mrs. Madelle worked at the American Optical Co. in Southbridge for 44 years before she retired.
She was a member of the Central Baptist Church and American Optical Co.'s Quarter Century Club. She was a reporter for the Southbridge News for stock car racing and enjoyed the sport as a hobby.
