MOUNT VERNON - Sally L. Wallace of Mount Vernon and formerly of Brunswick passed away on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at the Hospice House in Auburn after a long illness, with her loving family by her side.
She was born Dec. 10, 1938, in Mount Vernon, N.Y., the daughter of John Leo Murray Jr. and Julie M. Murray. She attended local schools and was a 1958 graduate of Fryeburg Academy.
Sally was a homemaker who went to school later in life to become a certified nurse's assistant. She was a member of the Brunswick Emblem Club and had a lifelong association with the American Legion Auxiliary, most recently with Harpswell Post 171, named in honor of her father, John Leo Murray Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Wallace, of Mount Vernon; her four children, John Theberge of Bangor, Lisa Steinbeiser-Maurer and her husband, Matthew Maurer, of Harpswell, Craig Theberge and his wife, Barbara, of Hixson, Tenn., and Timothy Theberge and his wife, Zoe, of Harpswell, and her stepdaughter, Lisa Wallace, of Oakland. She is survived by 12 grandchildren, Jessica Batz, Jake, Courtney and Zack Theberge, Elizabeth and Andrew Steinbeiser, Angela Byrne and Luke Obloy, Danielle and Matthew Maurer, and Andrew and Kaitlyn Cook; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Peter Murray, of Cundy's Harbor; her sister, Deborah Hess, of Bailey Island; and a paternal aunt, Grace Leeman, of Orr's Island
She was predeceased by her father, John Leo Murray, Jr., a Silver Star recipient who was killed in Germany in the closing days of World War II; a younger brother, John Leo Murray III; her mother, Julie M. Murray; and her stepfather, Paul Murray.
