HARPSWELL — Longtime resident, Richard "Dick" Kingston Merryman, 70, died on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at Maine Medical Center in Portland surrounded by his family.
Dick was active until the last day of his life, living and lobstering — as he had for nearly 50 years.
He was born in Brunswick on Sept. 18, 1945, the son of Arthur and Ida Orr Merryman.
He graduated from Brunswick High School, class of 1964, and attended Husson College. Dick also served as a medic in the Army Reserves. While visiting Deering Ice Cream with friends, he met Karen Elizabeth Gustafson who became his best friend and later his wife on Nov. 24, 1971, in Wethersfield, CT. Dick knew great love and great loss after burying Karen, who died on Oct. 26, 1996.
He was a jovial and friendly man respected in his community for hard work and honesty. When he wasn't on the water, you could find him cutting trees from his wood lot or tapping maple trees for syrup.
Dick is survived by three sons, David R. Merryman and his wife Jena of Topsham, Bruce A. Merryman of Harpswell and Scott J. Merryman of Bowdoinham, and brother John Merryman of Brunswick. "Bunka" will be greatly missed by his beloved grandchildren, Karen Angelica Merryman, Adrianna Jewel Merryman and Colby Kingston Merryman.
