  Portland Press Herald (ME) December 16, 2000 Thomas E. Barker, 79, of Mona Road died Dec. 13, 2000, at his home. He was born in Portland, a son of Philip E. and Irma Stackpole Barker, attended Saunders School and Lincoln Junior High School and graduated from Deering High School in 1938. From 1942 to 1945, he served with the Army Air Corps in the 391th Bomber Group flying in B-26 light bombers in the European Theater of Operations. Mr. Barker worked at the Frank Brown Co. from 1938 until 1941, the Burgess Fobes Co. from 1941 until 1976, and retired from Coatings Lab in 1981. He was a member of the Woodfords Club and Immanuel Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for many years, and was a member of the Beavers, a men's group that maintained church property. Mr. Barker coached Little League baseball during the 1950s and '60s, and was the Portland and Cumberland County horseshoe champ through the 1940s and '50s. His other interests included bowling, golf, billiards and bird watching. A son, Thomas E. Barker Jr., died previously. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Elinor Clark Barker of Portland; a son, Bruce C. of Dixmont; two half brothers, Hugh Ashford of Long Island, N.Y., and Donald Barker of Florida; three granddaughters and a stepgranddaughter.
