Charles W. Wentworth, 82, of Sheldon Street, an employee in the electrical maintenance department for the General Electric Wire Device, Providence, for 28 years before retiring in 1971, died Sunday at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy (Gilman) Wentworth.
Born in Newton, Mass., a son of the late Clarence A. and Evelyn (Jackson) Wentworth, he lived in Cranston since 1943.
Mr. Wentworth also owned Wentworth Electric Services. He was a member of Harmony Lodge, AF and AM, for more than 50 years. He was a 35-year member of the Pawtuxet Volunteer Fire Department and served as superintendent of the fire alarm system. He was a member of the Special Signal Fire Association. He was a member of the Providence Festival Chorus, and was a deacon and choir member of the First Universalist Church, Providence.
Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Barbara Holts of Cranston and Jane W. Lussier of North Kingstown; two sons, Paul A. Wentworth of Providence, a battalion chief in the Providence Fire Department, and Alan W. Wentworth of Warwick; a sister, Ruth Huston of Wilmington, Mass.; a stepsister, Elizabeth Hassell of Newton, Mass.; a stepbrother, Richard Higgins of Northfield, Vt., and eight grandchildren.
