  Review Times (Fostoria, OH) January 7, 2009 Eugene P. "Gene" Reid, 94, of Sarasota, Fla. and formerly of Arcadia, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, in Sarasota. Reid was born in Napoleon on March 13, 1914 to the late Bruce A. and Edith J. (Philpott) Reid. When tuberculosis cut short a career as a big-band musician, he opened the Arcadia SOHIO gas station at Main and Fremont in 1934. The station served as the community's social and business center until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Lodge No. 288 Free and Accepted Masons, Fostoria; former president of the Arcadia Conservation Club; and former fire chief of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, where he served from 1935 to 1969. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby K. Kulhman of Arcadia; stepson Robert Farrell of Bridgeport, W.Va.; and siblings, James Reid of Savannah, Ga.; Robert Reid, Arcadia; and Vivian Hill, Fostoria. He is survived by his daughter, Thana Wise, Atlanta, Ga.; stepdaughter, Shirlee Farrell, Riverside, Calif.; grandsons, Andy Wise, Memphis, Tenn.; and Chad Wise, Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Jordan Wise and Austin Wise, both of Memphis; and companion Eileen Ward, Sarasota, Fla.
