  Portland Press Herald (ME) July 8, 2014 YARMOUTH -- Frances Jane 'Fran' Freeman Sweetser, 78, of New Gloucester, died on Friday, July 4, 2014, at Coastal Manor in Yarmouth with family at her side. She was born in Yarmouth on May, 18, 1936, the second of five girls of Mary Jane (Richards) and Gardiner Mansfield. She grew up in Yarmouth and graduated from North Yarmouth Academy, class of 1954. In the fall of 1954, Fran married Harold Freeman and they moved to North Yarmouth where they would raise their six children. Tragically, Harold died in 1966. Fran went from being a stay at home mom to being a cook and also a teacher's aide for MSAD 51. In 1973, she married Robert 'Bob' Sweetser who gave her love and happiness and they continued raising seven children. Sadly, Bob passed in 2003. Fran was asked to work at the Town and Country Store to run the lunch counter. Two years later and for the next seven years it became 'Fran's' and is now 'Stone's.' She was famous for her bran muffins, delicious pies and her strawberry-rhubarb cobbler is a great memory for some in her family. Through the years her faith sustained her and she was a member of the North Yarmouth Congregational Church. Life for Fran was all about family and she loved to entertain. No matter the occasion, a party could be put together in no time. Fran had the gift of hospitality where all were welcome. She was a mother, a sister, a friend to anyone in need and her spirit of generosity knew no bounds. This angel has returned from where she came. Fran is survived by her seven children, Sandra Russell, North Yarmouth, Peter (Barbara) Freeman, Gray, Glen (Ellen) Freeman, New Gloucester, Cynthia Freeman, New Gloucester, Diane (Kenny) Normand, North Yarmouth, Joan Freeman, New Gloucester, Chris Sweetser, Yarmouth; her 15 wonderful grandchildren; her 18 adorable great-grandchildren; her sisters, Pat Dow, Barbara (Norm) Reny, Dottie (Richard) Cooper, Donna Curtis; her sister-in-law, Dot (Billy) Hayward; and numerous nieces and nephews.
