Evelyn Marie Carlock Johnson, age 94, of Joplin, passed away at 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at Freeman West Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1920, in Norwood, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Pricey and Dorothy Jarrett Carlock. She moved with her family, to Joplin at the age of 13. She graduated from Joplin Senior High School.
Evelyn worked as a salesperson at several businesses including the former McKee Jewelers. She also owned and operated her restaurant, Evelyn's, at two downtown Joplin locations during the 1940s and 1950s. In addition, Evelyn worked in the dental office of Dr. Schulte. She was a christian.
On May 10, 1975, she married Richard D. (Dick) Johnson, at Miami, Okla. He survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Carol Avery, of Springfield, Mo., and Linda Jenkins, of Bolingbrook, Ill.; four grandsons, Garry Avery and Ray Jay, of Springfield, Steven Jay, of Florida, and Nathaniel Jenkins, of Bolingbrook; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Maxine Murray; and an infant brother, Donald Carlock.
