Major John H. Donovan, U.S. Army Retired, age 93, formerly of Phoenixville, PA passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at Emeritus at Creek view, Mechanicsburg.
He was a graduate of Boston College, where he earned a degree in nursing. He retired from the U.S. Army, serving many years of his military career as a registered nurse, teaching and specializing in psychiatric nursing. After retiring from the Army he went on to serve as the head of Coatesville Veterans Hospital Psychiatric Ward.
While serving in the infantry during World War ll, Major Donovan was held as a Prisoner Of War in a German War Camp and went on to serve our country during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. While in the service and following his retirement Major Donovan enjoyed traveling throughout the world with his wife Lois who passed away in February of 2011.
Major Donovan was a member of the Phoenixville Historical Society and the Charlestown Nature Society of Phoenixville. He was an avid golfer and racquetball player, having won a racquetball tournament at the age of 83.
The widower of Lois K. Donovan, he is survived by a son Michael Donovan and wife Angela of Mechanicsburg, two grandchildren Tyler and Elise Donovan and was preceded in death by his daughter Patricia Donovan.
