Dorothy passed at her home in Burnsville on September 19th, 2014.
Dorothy was the 1st child of Richard and Doris (Durkee) Whitney. She was delivered by her great uncle, Teddy Gustafson, on December 19th, 1932 at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis.
She rode her horse to the country school near their farm (Orchard Hill) outside of Mapleton, MN. Later she attended high school in Mapleton. Dorothy experienced many firsts in her life and getting running water & a TV were 2 highlights!
Dorothy married Winton Graf in 1951 and they became the proud parents of 5 daughters- Barbara, Susan, Sherry, Connie and Tammy. In 1966, they moved their family from the Mankato area to Wanamingo, where 4 of the girls graduated. Tammy graduated from the Faribault School for the Deaf. Dorothy sold Watkins for many years and opened a gift shop in Wanamingo called the Whatkins Shop. Wint and Dorothy later divorced, but remained friends. She moved to the Burnsville area in 1991 and that has been her home since then. During that time, she began doing nanny work for families with twins and triplets and continued this into her 70's.
She loved to travel and was able to visit Japan, Thailand, Spain, Morocco & Mexico. Her great grandmother taught her art is a very important part of life and she became an avid collector of many beautiful things. Dorothy loved to play Bridge, Pfeffer and 500. Barefoot Becky and The Boys were one of her favorite bands and she enjoyed dancing to their music up until August.
Dorothy is survived by her 5 daughters: Barb (Dave) Muellerleile of North Mankato, Sue Novotny of Kenyon, Sherry (Bob) Clowes of Rochester, Connie Graf of Burnsville and Tammy Cochran of Nixa, Missouri, her grand children: Sarah Muellerleile (Partner Doug Rowse), Becca (John) Jordre, Jessica Novotny, Ryan Clowes and Samara Pagan; great grandchildren: Nina & Wilson Jordre. Her siblings also survive her- Jean Ann (Richard) Bartholomew, Pattie Krengel and Richard Whitney Jr.
