MANKATO -- John M. Whitney, 76, of Good Thunder, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
He was born in Mankato on July 10, 1928, to Marvin C. and Irma F. (Possin) Whitney. He grew up near Amboy. He married Edyth E. Johnson on Sept. 3, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal. They farmed near Madelia until 1958 when they moved to Kenyon, and farmed there until 1993 when they retired and moved to Good Thunder. He also worked for Owatonna Manufacturing Company for 21 years. He was a member of Lakelanders Barbershop Chorus in Faribault. He was active in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and was a choir member at Trinity Lutheran Church of Lake Crystal and Trinity Lutheran Church of Medford.
He is survived by his wife, Edyth Whitney; children, Kent Whitney of Grayson, Ga., Elliot Whitney of Blackduck, Jinette Whitney of Good Thunder, Bryan Whitney of Kenyon, Carolyn Jones of Eagle River, Alaska, Laura Matzke of Good Thunder, Leah Galaudet of Minneapolis and Toni Whitney of Bemidji; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
