Ruth (Dolan) Barrows, 93, a lifelong resident of Hovey Street, Ipswich, passed away July 23, 2013, at the Ledgewood Nursing Center in Beverly, following a reoccurring period of illness.
Born in Ipswich, April 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Dodge) Dolan and was a 1937 graduate of the former Manning High School.
Ruth was married to the love of her life the late Raymond S. Barrows for 64 years. She and Raymond enjoyed a very fulfilling life together raising a family and eventually enjoying their grandchildren.
For many years, Ruth assisted her sister Majorie Dolan who owned and operated the Small Fry Nursery School. Ruth provided the transportation for Ms. Dolans students and performed various other duties for the Kindergarten. In addition to being a homemaker and raising her family, Ruth had several interests including, sewing, knitting, traveling, riding her bicycle, boating and spending time at her lakeside cottage in Meredith, NH. Ruth was also an active member in the Ipswich Womans Club and United Methodist Church Womans Group. Ruth volunteered several years for the Cable Memorial Hospital auxiliary working in the hospital gift shop.
She is survived by her son, David Barrows of Tampa, FL and two daughters, Cynde Leshin of Sedona, AZ, and Marjorie Barrows of Phoenix, AZ.; her granddaughter, Lisa Barrows of Tampa, FL.; and three grandsons, Todd Haughton, Jesse Gaudette and Benjamin Gaudette, all of Phoenix, AZ.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her sister Majorie Dolan and brother Edward Dolan who was a casualty of World War II.
