  Grand Rapids Press April 21, 2016 Raymond Eugene Obetts, age 82, passed peacefully on April 20, 2016. He was born on October 27, 1933. He is survived by his children Kelli (Marc) Gierz, Patrick (Debra) Obetts, Michelle (Michael) Fields, and Angela (Richard) Nelson; his ten grandchildren Danielle (Jake) Gierz DeVries, Andrew Gierz, Brittany Obetts, Joshua Nelson, Kaliegh Fields, McKenzie Obetts, Kassi Nelson, Robert (Nikki Ledger) Obetts, Ryan Fields, Wesley Obetts; and soon to be first great granddaughter, Charlee. He also leaves behind sister Rita (James Sr.) Paas; brother Phil (Jackie) Obetts; brothers-in-law Ricky (Paula) Riordan, Terry (Eldine) Riordan, Jack (Janet) Riordan, Greg Hardin; sisters-in-law Barbara Obetts, Arlene Obetts, Kitty Carlson, Rose Riordan, Barbara (Bill) Fischer, and many, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a lot of wonderful friends. He was proceeded in death by the love of his life Mary (Char) Charlene Riordan Obetts; his brothers Carl, Rich, and Ed; sister Louise; brothers-in-law Joe Riordan, Chuck Riordan, James Riordan; sisters-in-law Mary Obetts, Ann Riordan, Patty Hardin, Sharon Riordan; niece Kathy Robrahn; and nephews Joe Obetts and Jason Riordan. A Navy veteran, Ray retired from the US Postal Service and was an accomplished golfer who loved to "take a ride" to the casino, fish, garden, bake, make pickles, and play games and cards with friends and family. He was a founding member at Holy Redeemer Church, a great husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
