She was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Bluffs, the daughter of Elmer Francis and Dona Pearl Dunham Seeman. She married Albert Ray Hayes on Aug. 19, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1966.

She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Nancy Louise Hayes; one sister, Dorothy M. Schroeder; and one brother, Harold Francis Seeman.
Bess was a cook at the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville for many years. She was previously employed at MacMurray College. Health setbacks eventually led to Bess moving to Prairie Village, where she became active within that community and made special friends with both the residents and caregivers.
