Services for Aura Frances (Love) Delano will be held at 2 p.m. May 3 in Carmen, Okla., at the Carmen Cemetery.
Aura was born near Hopeton, Okla., on May 24, 1916, to Joseph Milton and Harriet Hoyle Love. She died April 29, 2002. She was 85.
She was the sixth child in a family of eight. She attended school in Galtry, Okla., until the family moved to Carmen, where she completed the 11th grade.
It was in Carmen that she met and married Loyd Russell Delano on May 20, 1932. Aura and Loyd made their home there, and started a family. Loyd worked with the threshing crews, hauled fruit and worked in the elevators while Aura ran the laundry to provide for their family of four children, Bud, Wilma, Carolyn and Frank.
In 1949, the family moved to Dove Creek, where Aura once again found herself running a laundry while Loyd worked for farmers and in several different mines around the Four Corners area. After the laundry closed, Aura worked in the grocery store, first for Fred Young, then for Louie Beecher, until moving back to Carmen in 1970.
Aura became a widow on Jan. 5, 1972, but stayed in Carmen and again joined the work force. She worked for Jack and Connie at the Dairy Boy there until 1978, when she moved to Strattford, Okla., to help her sister, Bert, and brother-in-law, Roy.
Aura returned to Dove Creek in 1992 to be close to family and old friends. She resided there until 2000, when declining health necessitated a move to Madison House Assisted Living Facility. She then moved to the Valley Inn in Mancos, where she resided until her death on April 29, 2002, with her family at her side.
She is survived by her children, Wilber and Kay, Wilma and Chuck Meyers and Carolyn and El Porritt, all of Dove Creek, and Frank and Connie Delano of Flagstaff, Ariz.; sister, Maxine Case of Aline, Okla.; brother Willis (Joyce) Love of New Braunfels, Texas; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Ruby, Bertha and Nora, and brothers Wilber and Bill.
