  Find-a-Grave Jerry Lynn Root, age 64 of Independence, passed away Friday, December 5, 2014, at VA Hospital in Wichita. Jerry Root was born July 2, 1950, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, to Gilbert and Lucille (Delano) Root. The family moved to Independence in 1953. He attended local schools and graduated in 1968. He entered the U.S. Army in 1970 and served in Vietnam. He had worked for Pepsi in Olathe, KS, and Woods Lumber in Independence. He was a member of the VFW Post 1186, and the First Christian Church. Survivors of Jerry Root include: Daughter; Trisha Nicole Root, Coffeyville, KS. Three grandchildren; Chandler, Chase, and Cain. Two brothers; B.D. Root, Ocean's Springs, MS, and Randy Root, Independence, KS. Sister; Linda Lewis, Olathe, KS. Nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded by his parents, his son, Jason Root, and his brother Ronnie Root.
