Desley M. "Deck" TICE, 94, of Liberal, Kansas, died October 18, 1999 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born August 5, 1905 in No Man' Land in Beaver County, Oklahoma, and graduated from Balko High School in 1926. He married Sylvia Belle DELANO on August 3, 1930 in Beaver County.
He worked several years in Enid as sa mechanic for Groendyke Transportation. He was also a catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1920s, and later played for the Eason Oilers
in Enid, Oklahoma, until retiring from the sport at age 37.
He and his wife farmed for several years before moving to Liberal in 1971. After his heart attack five years ago, they moved to Wheatridge Park Care Center. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Addie TICE; one sister, Lorraine SMITH; and a daughter, Betty Mae.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, of Liberal; one son, Cecil TICE of Broomfield, Colorado; two sisters, Mabel BARNETT of Williamsburg, and Mana Eura PERRY of Beaver, Oklahoma, one brother, Gwynn TICE of Balko; and two grandchildren.
